Djembe Drumming & (Pizza!) Workshop POSTPONED
Only $5 per person (music department is paying the rest) and your $5 charge INCLUDES your OWN DJEMBE drum to borrow for the workshop, AND a delicious slice of pizza after the workshop! (Additional slices $2 each).
He completed his Ph.D. coursework at The University of British Columbia but put his graduate studies on hold in order to perform and give hand with drumming workshops in schools and public venues. From 2001 to 2014, Milton taught workshops in over 900 schools in British Columbia, Alberta, USA, Hong Kong and has introduced over 220,000 students to hand drumming.
| Milton Randall began playing drums for socials and weddings when he was just 13 years old. He received a B. Mus. Ed. from the University of Texas at El Paso (1985) and a n M. Ed. (Music) from the University of North Texas in 1995. Between degrees, Milton performed with the Winnipeg Symphony and numerous jazz and pop music venues and taught in St. Boniface School District in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 1995, Milton studied with master drummer Godwin Agbeli in his home village of Kopeyia in Ghana on a scholarship from the University of North Texas. |

Monkido® Extreme Course
- Minimum age 12.
- Chaperone requirements: A responsible adult must accompany kids age 13 and younger on site.
- Minimum reach 5’11” (180cm), with feet flat on the ground.
- Maximum weight limit is 300lbs (136kg).
- 30 – 60 minutes to complete.
- Signed online waiver is required for each guest (Parent/legal guardian signature is required for each minor guest).
TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY ELEMENT ACTIVITIES
• Chaperone requirements: a responsible adult must accompany youth age 13 and younger on site.
Choose an appropriate number of chaperones to manage your group participants. WildPlay Element Guides patrol and manage activities, but do not chaperone
specific individuals or groups. If you need assistance with arranging chaperones, contact us about options.
• Waivers: Parent/legal guardian signed online waiver (visit www.wildplay.com/waivers)
is required for each guest who is under the age of nineteen (18 years and younger). Ensure that everyone in your group has a completed online waiver prior to Park arrival.
Without the completion of a waiver a participant will not be able to take part in the adventure. o Make your check-in as smooth as possible!

Pride Dance Thursday Apr 27
On Thursday April 27 the Burnaby School District will be hosting its first ever District Pride Dance! This dance is open to all high school students in the district, in the spirit of celebrating the diversity and inclusivity of our students. The dance will be held from 6pm-9pm at Byrne Creek Community School. Tickets will go on sale in the school office on Monday March 27 – April 7 for $7; then again Monday April 10-Wednesday April 20 for $10. There are only 40 tickets available per school, so buy them early to avoid missing out. The theme of the dance is “Pride” so wear your rainbow colours to show your support.

WE Council - Goats for Kenya!
As the WE Council students mentioned at the staff meeting, part of their WE Create Change campaign is for the teachers to participate in a coin war. In the next few weeks, students will be having lunch hour coin drives-- supported by our Rebel Athletes, a bubble tea sale and a rafiki bracelet raffle.
The teacher coin wars was planned for April 10th -21st, but you can start whenever you want to; the cut-off is the 21st. What we need to know is how many of you are participating and would like a can/envelope in your classes; how many of you need multiple cans/envelopes if you are creating a competition amongst your classes. Please also feel free to ask for a can even if you are not "competing" :-)
We are short of cans, but the WE Council students will be getting more next week; they did not anticipate the competitive eagerness of our colleagues, in the meantime, if you have already started, use whatever envelope, container you have, but let me know so we can keep track. Also, you will need to lock up your donations in your rooms each day until WE coucil students come to collect.
And as mentioned at the staff meeting, we are fundraising to provide goats to Kenya, which will give them a sustainable income where they can sell and use the milk, cheese and yogurt. Right now, East Africa is facing a drought that is affecting 16 million people. Free the children (now called WE) is on the ground in Kenya, which is why we picked that country in East Africa.
The teacher, and/or staff member that raises the most funds will win a trophy and/or medal, and more importantly, bragging rights. The admin & office staff have also risen to the challenge and believe that even though they don't have access to students, they can still out fundraise ANY teacher by pooling their own money. Remember again you can use whatever incentives, party, free-day, no homework day, etc. to encourage your students, but you can not use extra marks, bonus marks or per cents, or
threats/intimidation [stop promising them dire consequences if you don't win Ms. Chow, last warning ;-) ] as incentives.

This year we are presenting the fabulous Cole Porter show "Anything Goes" directed by Valerie Easton (many credits with the Arts Club). This is a great show to bring students to.
Introduce your music students to the wonderful music of Cole Porter - so many songs you'll recognize from "You're the Top" to "It's De-Lovely", "I Get a Kick out of you", Blow, Gabriel Blow" and of course the title song, "Anything Goes". These are songs that cross over from Jazz band to Concert Band to Choir. Above all, this is a dancing musical - tap, jazz, ballet...it's full of dance!!
This is wonderful opportunity for your students to see a semi professional production in their own community. (the Massey Theatre)
I know first hand how much work it is organizing a field trip to a show, but I also know how wonderfully this can create a sense of community amongst your students and with you.

Concert will finish at approximately 9pm, you are expected to stay for the full concert
On the night you are not performing you are expected to attend as audience to support your fellow musicians.
Section leaders will take attendance on both nights using binders from classroom
Where can I buy tickets?
-Tickets will go on pre-sale during lunch on Thursday Dec 1/Friday Dec 2/Tuesday Dec 6 outside the cafeteria, or are available at the door on the night of the concert. Note: all ticket sales are being handled by the Music Council, please do not ask Mr. Wilson/Ms. Carley for tickets :)
-tickets for students not performing are $5-tickets for adults/parents are $8, and for seniors (65+) are $5
-Tickets for students who perform are FREE for both nights.
